A specialist ASD therapeutic school in Surrey are currently looking for experienced learning support assistants to join their growing team from April 2021. The school provide a bespoke provision for young people who have an autistic spectrum disorder (ASD) and additional social, emotional and mental health needs, including PDA and ADHD. They have capacity for up to 36 pupils aged 6-14 years. All pupils attending the school have an EHCP.
The Role
As a Therapeutic Learning Support Assistant you will be supporting pupils in daily lessons and in broader activities across the provision. You will be directed by the class teacher on your daily tasks, but these will always focus on the pupil’s learning and all-round development. You will be required to lead interventions and at times develop resources in order to support pupils. You will take on key worker duties for specific pupils which will involve supporting in their overall care plans and providing feedback as required. Your role will also involve attending meetings and review sessions.
Person Specification
The school are looking for a qualified, reliable and experienced SEN learning support assistant. You should have a positive, non-judgmental attitude and a warm, friendly and patient approach to supporting pupils with SEN.
You must have
- a minimum experience of 2 years in classroom support and Level 3 Supporting Teaching & Learning in Skills Certificate or equivalent OR at least 4 years experience supporting SEND pupils
- Experience of working with pupils with high functioning ASD and co-morbidities including SEMH, PDA, ODD and demand avoidance and challenging behaviour.
- A knowledge of behaviour management techniques that support school and classroom practices.
- Knowledge and understanding of curriculum and assessment
- Ability to communicate well with children and young people with complex needs, establishing and acting a good role model at all times
