We are currently looking for an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to work in a specialist class for pupils with SEN at a primary school in Barking.
In this role you will be working with primary age children with high level, low incidence, special educational needs and disabilities, including speech and language needs. After the school identified a number of pupils with SEN as requiring additional support, they set up a specialist classroom following a structured TEACCH programme to allow pupils to access individualised learning programmes. The SENCo acts as the lead teacher and learning can be a mixture of class based and provision based for some pupils. Alongside supporting pupils within lessons, you will also be involved in pupil’s ECHP reviews, meeting and communications with parents and external agencies. Although this role is based in the provision, you will be in regular contact with staff and teachers from the mainstream classrooms
This role is suitable for a teaching assistant who has extensive training and experience supporting pupils with SEN, especially autism.
This specialist provision is based in a large, friendly primary school in Barking. The school is rated good by Ofsted and attracts pupils from a very wide range of backgrounds, and are very welcoming to all, and thrive in a culture of humour and respect. Pupils are successful, collaborative learners and behaviour is good. The school is located close to Barking station and accessible via local bus links.
